Thomas Mallinder was born at Killamarsh in 1827, his brothers and sisters were born in Sheffield. The picture is St Marie's Cathedral Sheffield in 1860 where Thomas married in 1852. This would have been the view as he arrived for his wedding. One source states that Thomas's father, Martin Mallinder 1803-1847, was a founder member of this Church. Thomas spent his working life as a moulder in Sheffield; making moulds for various castings within the foundry. I recall my father telling me that the Mallinders had their own foundry; Martin's sons established a company called 'Mallinder Brothers' that was described as 'General Ironfounders'. Andy Mallinder kindly provided this article from the "Sheffield Independent" to support this oral tradition. Thomas was the senior partner up to his death.

Elizabeth Crossland (1827-1899)
This is a census record for 1841, note that Elizabeth remains at this address until her marriage.
This is the 1851 census for Elizabeth, the year before she married.
At the time of Thomas's death Elizabeth would have been about 50.
In 1881 Thomas had died but his wife Elizabeth was living at 22 Randall Street with daughters Ann (26), now a dressmaker; Elizabeth (23) a dressmaker's assistant and William Henry who was at school. Joseph (27 Paternal Line) had left home and was now married to Hannah (nee. Aiken); he was an iron moulder living at 45 Alderson Road. It is interesting to note that in 1881 Francis and Mary were also living at 31 Randall Street, an iron founder employing 9 men and 5 boys. Francis was Thomas' brother and perhaps he is ensuring his brothers' widow is supported.
In 1891 Elizabeth was 63 years old living at 45 Alderson Road, where Joseph (Paternal line) and Hanna (nee. Aiken) had been living in the 1881 census. She was living with her two daughters, Ann (35) and Elizabeth (32), who were dressmakers. Her son William Henry (22) was also living with them,he was a haberdasher. Thomas died 19th February 1878 at Sheffield, aged about 50 years old. There is a burial record for February 21, 1878 at St Michaels RC Cemetery, Rivelin. The record states that he died aged 58 years, this should read 50 years.
There is a floor tiling memorial, to the far left aisle of the main atrium, at St Maries Cathedral in Sheffield. The tiles were made about 1880 asking for prayers for a fair number of deceased parishioners; see here for a detailed explanation on the tiles.
